The Movement Can’t Be Stopped

“Respect The Jux”

”You know when you party with crooks you gotta learn to respect the jux.” -50 Cent

What it is? It’s about time I put y’all up on some game. Anybody that’s anybody knows somebody who knows somebody who knows the deal. With all that being said, my somebody, my man Al Lover, put me up on some game. The short version is what I am presenting here:

He tells me of a guy he ran with named “Yello” out in Lefrak City, Queens. Without giving much away, he tells a tale of a street legend with a rep as long as train smoke. The end result is ”Respect The Jux”. ”Respect The Jux” is Yello’s first published novel, inspired from recollections of his life. After immigrating to the United States, He learned the first code of the streets quickly – hustle or be hustled – and got involved in the drug game in the ‘80’s. His name become known, respected, and feared in Lefrak City, Queens (N.Y.) In the 90’s, he switched his game to taking money instead of hustling for it. Ultimately, one too many Jux was the cause of his downfall. Arrested and charged with murder, robbery, and assault, he took a plea bargain and received a fourteen year sentence in state prison, where he is currently serving his time.

I have yet to read this but I find getting a book published while incarcerated must mean there is something worthwhile under the surface. I just figured I’d be the one to break the news to you sleepers!  For more info or to purchase “Respect The Jux”, Check out Yello and his team at www.keeplockent.com or get your copy here.

New Music Review!!!

Port of Miami

“I’m not a slim thug, I’m a fat mac/ I don’t give a f**k, I’ll push ya’ hat back”- Rick Ro$$

Welcome to the Port Of Miami. You can’t go into a club, get into a car or walk down the block without hearing the clarion call keyboards of Ross’s earthquake debut single, “Hustlin’.” It’s the early front-runner for street anthem of the year. On one song alone, Ross has laid it all out there for you to see and hear. Over keyboards that wouldn’t sound out of place scoring the last scene of Scarface, Ross posits himself as the Alpha Hustler. The hustler as superhero. But, unbelievably, it’s only a taste.

On Ross’s debut LP, Port Of Miami, you are immediately immersed in a fully fleshed out world. As a member of the Slip-N-Slide (Trick Daddy, Trina) crew, Rick Ross is part of a bubbling Miami scene that is sure to be making noise on Atlanta and Houston levels this year. But Ross’s Miami is unlike any one you’re gonna see on a postcard. Rick Ross’s Miami is one where drug deals and dropped bodies happen in the shadows of Art Deco hotels and plush nightclubs. It’s the luxury and the tragedy. It’s an American Dream and an American Nightmare.

I see this album in the tradition of Reasonable Doubt and Ready To Die,” says Ross. “It’s made to be a classic. It’s made to make everyone stop and re-think the whole game.”

In Hip-Hop, in 2006, you have to be as big as the culture you represent. You have to be more than music, more than mixtapes, more than a fad. You have to be a movement. Rick Ross, in the tradition of Ice Cube and Jay-Z, is a rebel hustler. He’s a renegade who gives you an inside look at how it really goes down in America’s paradise. He gives a voice to those who have none. A- list production and appearances by Jay-Z, Young Jeezy, Lil’ Wayne, Lyfe Jennings, LLoyd, Carol City Cartel, Dre (Of Cool & Dre), Akon, & Mario Winans makes this an exceptional debut. With a few missteps, while it may not be a classic, it is the best debut by a new artist this year. Rating: 4.5/5
